Ep.27 - What We Know, Known & Should Know

This Episode of "What's Good?" explores the rise in Racism in the UK, the increasing relevance of George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four", is Football broken? And what is the best TV show in the 21st Century?
In a week where:
  1. Kanye & Kim named their new kid PSALM.
  2. The European Elections loom over a UK that doesn't know whether to take it seriously or not.
  3. MILKSHAKES have become the symbol of being against the far-right.
  4. And RIP to Niki Lauda, who died aged 70.
In the first of two Life segments, (4:45) George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four is considered one of the most well-known texts in recent history. While it might not be the best "novel" from an objective view when adding real-world context to what happens in the book, it's cultural & societal reach/commentary cannot be overstated. I've been thinking about the book a lot recently and the article I read from gave me a good reason to talk about it.

For the 2nd Life segment, (15:26) a Nationwide study has concluded that Racism in the UK has risen significantly in every category. Whether it's on social media or in person, factually, the UK is more discriminatory than it was over two years ago. The article makes a loose connection to the EU vote which in my opinion, sparked something bad, to the point where it's taking steps to become more normalised.

In Sports, (32:45) after the 6-0 butchering of Watford by Manchester City in the FA Cup Final, the questions of "Is Football Broken?" rise once again. The article read basically says yes but I make a point that maybe we're too late in asking this.

Finishing with the Film/TV segment, (46:47) Game Of Thrones has mercifully ended, to a majority of cheers since the much-hyped 8th and final season was panned by most people. The day after, Breaking Bad fanboys/girls came out of the woodwork to claim once again that Breaking Bad is the best show of the 21st Century. To which I heartily say "Hell no." I give my reasons by not talking about the good of some shows that are considered the best (Breaking Bad, The Sopranos & The Wire are usually the three brought up.) but focusing more on the negatives the shows have. In which I conclude that The Wire is the best.
