Ep.101 - "Australian-Style", Black TV Writers & The Adenugas
On Ep.101 of WG - WTF is an "Australian-Style" deal? There are a pitiful amount of Black writers in the UK TV game. Netflix' huge benefit from Corona and a great look at the Adenuga's, potentially the most creative family in the UK.
In a week where:
- Roughly a quarter of the Pantanal Wetlands in Brazil has burned from wildfires this year.
- Jacinda Ardern's Labour Party waxes the NZ Election, giving her the first majority government in over a decade.
- No.10 broke precedent and snubbed Britain’s first black archbishop (John Sentamu) for a peerage because it says the House of Lords is too large, but it made room for Ian Botham, Claire Fox and Theresa May’s husband.
- Teofimo Lopez upsets Vasily Lomachencko to become undisputed Lightweight Champion.
- Officials begin a second excavation searching for mass graves from the 1921 Tulsa massacre.
In Life - (9:58) So the government decided to be patronising and not keep it 100 by saying we're leaving with an "Australian-Style" relationship with the EU. So I decided to bite and ask WTF is "Australian-Style" even though I fully know the answer.
In the first of two Film/TV segments - (20:53) We have solid data on the percentage of British TV Writers that identify as black and the percentage of non-white studio execs & series producers... It's not good.
In the 2nd Film/TV segment - (31:45) Corona has been a benefit for a lot of entities. One of the obvious beneficiaries are Netflix who's subscriber count has ballooned this year. But how long will that and their overall dominance last?
Lastly, in Music - (43:09) I had a thought about the Adenuga family last week, asking myself "has there been a more creatively successful family in recent memory?" And funny enough, a little profile came up, all about the Adenuga's and how they're just so damn good at what they do individually.
