Ep.172 - Ed Sheeran, Claudia Rankine & Artistic Niche
On Ep.172 of WG: Ed Sheeran wins a case, Claudia Rankine talks to white people; finding a niche in your art & life lessons from people near death.
In a week where:
- Ketanji Brown Jackson becomes the first black woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.
- Koci Selamaj is jailed for a minimum of 36 years for the murder of Sabina Nessa.
- Will Smith is banned from The Oscars for 10 years.
- Pakistan PM Imran Khan's government loses a no-confidence vote.
- Boris Johnson & Rishi Sunak are fined for 'party gate' COVID rule-breaking.
In Music: (6:30) Ed Sheeran wins his copyright case. But this might be one of many in the coming years as music output becomes far more frequent than in past eras.
In Theatre: (18:51) Poet & essayist Claudia Rankine has created a play out of asking white people about white privilege. It's a cool concept and makes me want to be better in being a bridge in highlighting societal ills. But I might be too jaded.
In Art: (33:06) Whether you're a photographer, writer, musician or painter, it's always encouraged to find a niche within it. But should you? Is it essential? In some ways, yes. But overall, probably not.
Lastly, in Life: (45:22) It is always worth getting life lessons. It's even more worth getting life lessons from people that are aware their days are numbered. I unlock a lesson that benefits myself and it might for you as well.
