Ep.96 - Internal Market Bill, Naomi Osaka & An Inclusion Report
On Ep.96 of WG: The Government show no guilt as they break International Law, Naomi Osaka keeps up the message as she wins the US Open, USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative drop an enlightening Inequality Report for US Films. And Bill Russell drops one of my favourite pieces this year.
In a week where:
- Diversity's BLM performance on BGT gets nearly 16,000 complaints.
- More than 3 million acres have burned in the California wildfires.
- Reggae legend Toots Hibbert dies aged 77.
- Tenet hits $200M globally.
- Whistle-blower Dawn Wooten accuses ICE performed hysterectomies on detainees.
In Life: (9:49) The Government's Internal Market Bill is pissing everyone off and its the nail in the coffin that guilt is nowhere to be seen with this government and if it ever does, it'll be met with shunning.
In the first of two Sports segments: (23:25) Naomi Osaka's US Open win was one thing, but her dedication to highlighting the death of African-Americans and taking constant questions about it was something else and it's worth taking a moment to applaud the 22-year-old.
In Film/TV: (35:06) The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative have released a stunning report, statistically breaking down 1,300 popular films from 2007 to 2019 and highlighting how much gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ & disability representation has fared on and off-screen.
Lastly, in the 2nd Sports segment: (51:51) Bill Russell pens one of the pieces of the year, meditating on race in America and how different (or very similar) it has become in his over 80 years of life.
